Whatch My Scooby-Doo, RickSam
This was a video installation work exhibited in the UNSW art gallery in Paddington. The overriding concept for this work was the idea surrounding the emerging adult and liminality. How you can be both two things at once (an adult and a child) and somehow exist as neither simultaneously; in a realm of ambiguity.
It was an exploration into the ways our past and present converged to make us who we are, not only from a familial perspective but also socially, pop-culturally, and personally. How we could create a visual language in which to discuss childhood trauma. I cut up popular songs so lyrically they told the story of a dismantling relationship and fused multiple aesthetic genres (animation, live-action and stop motion) together to create a world full of juxtaposition and hybridity, of both real and imagined memories that it had foundation in both real and fake realities. I engaged with a variety of mediums and storytelling (live performance, animation and stop motion) to communicate the dissociating and fragmented sensory experience of traumatic memory.
